From Chalkboards to Chatbots: My Teaching Vision in the AI Transition Technology is transforming education at an unprecedented pace. As an English Teacher in the technological era, I recognize the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) not as a threat but as an opportunity to enhance my teaching practices and students’ learning experience. Currently, I am working mostly with secondary school students, who are always curious about the world but easily lose their interest in learning if the lessons are too challenging and monotonous.  Having recognized these challenges, in the long run, I plan to integrate AI-powered tools in a practical and supportive way for my students. In the next two years, AI writing assistants, speech recognition apps, and chatbots will be used in my class to personalize learning experiences for my students. For example, AI can provide immediate feedback on students speaking and writing, allowing students to learn independently while I focus ...

REFLECTION MODULE 7: Final Project and Lesson Wrap-up

REFLECTION MODULE 7 Final Project and Lesson Wrap-up I am writing these lines when I have just finished some last few words for wrapping up my ICT final assignment. Admittedly, completing the final assignment for the ICT course presented both challenges and opportunities for my personal and career growth. During the final submission period, I was overwhelmed by the concurrent demands of other courses, such as presentation of Curriculum Development or Cross-cultural Awareness and Intercultural Understanding team project, alongside my teaching workload at a language center. This situation has highlighted to me the necessity of better time management and avoiding the pitfalls of last-minute rushes. Having recognized my students’ difficulty in generating and organizing ideas for answering VSTEP speaking test part 3, our group finally decided Mindmeister - a popular online mind mapping tool with the hope of enhancing creativity and logical thinking of my students. Despite many problems arisi...

Reflection Module 6: Flipped Classroom Approaches in English Language Teaching

Reflection Module 6: Flipped Classroom Approaches in English Language Teaching Module 6, which covered different types of Flipped Classroom Approaches in English Language Teaching , stands out as one of the most intriguing lessons I've encountered in this course. The allure of this lesson lies not only in the valuable information provided about flipped classrooms but also in the thought-provoking questions it raises about the feasibility of applying these approaches in specific teaching contexts. In this reflection, I will deviate from my usual approach to writing reflections. Instead, I will critically analyze three questions that emerged during class discussions and reflect on my own teaching experience. Question 1: Is it possible to apply flipped learning for low-level students due to the complexity of learning materials that students have to deal with before the lesson?  It is acknowledged that implementing flipped learning for low-level students can be challenging to some exte...

REFLECTION MODULE 5: Project-based Learning and Rubrics

Module 5: Project-based Learning and Rubrics The lesson of Module 5 about alternative assessment and using rubrics in language teaching practice has provided me with numerous significant insights into enhancing the evaluation process and supporting student learning autonomy. Before learning this module, assessing students’ performance by using tests and exams has always been prioritized by me due to its convenience and straightforwardness. However, this module has made me recognize the effectiveness and comprehensiveness of other alternative assessments such as portfolio, peer assessment and self-recording keeping, which I definitely will implement in the near future.  Similar to other previous lessons, our group has been warmed-up with a small discussion about different alternative assessments suggested by lecturers and also critically analysed the pros and cons of each type. I was so satisfied with the use of portfolio in evaluating students’ progress because it can demonstrate a...

Thanks to this module, I have been introduced to various skill-building websites, which are not only useful but also engaging and interactive. These websites offer a variety of activities, such as listening exercises, pronunciation practice, conversational simulations, and interactive games. Reflection Module 2: The ABCD Learning Objectives Framework and Effective Web Searching

REFLECTION MODULE 2 The ABCD Learning Objectives Framework and Effective Web Searching In module 2: The ABCD Learning Objectives Framework and Effective Web Searching , I was granted an opportunity to discover more about some effective web searching besides Google and also change my way of writing lesson objectives based on ABCD Framework. To be honest, this lesson has significantly transformed my normal approach to search information on the Internet and also provided me with a more critical framework for specifying lesson objectives for different types of students in my class. To begin the lesson, my teammates and I were assigned into different breakout zooms for sharing what we have read and prepared for this module. I have read all required readings provided by my lecturers and decided to share my experience with Bing - one of the top ten popular search engines in the world. Compared to Google, Bing can provide users with quicker responses and more results than Google. Moreove...
